Just What Am I Being Called To DO?

Because Satan has deceived the whole world (Rev.12:9), people around the world who are religious have bought into what has been taught by religious teachers without getting into their Bibles and finding out what the truth really is!

When someone begins to feel the call of God to Jesus the Christ, it is assumed, for one reason or another, that the call is to be a minister, priest or teacher of some kind.

They know they don't have the knowledge and training to fit into those jobs and yet the thoughts persist!

People continually ask the question that I've used for the title of this article, not realizing that it takes many years of study to truly be able to teach the Word of God, the Gospel, to others.

What they wind up doing is alienating many people who might have been considering conversion and who have many unanswered questions of their own.

The fact that a person would ask, "What Am I Being Called To DO?" is proof that they don't have the knowledge and understanding necessary to be a minister or teacher of any kind.

A "novice" is not called to lead!

1 Tim 3:1-7 "This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil."

Yes! A novice placed into a position of leadership can become "lifted up with pride" and fall into condemnation of the devil!!!

However, the question IS still a valid question! They just simply don't understand why someone is called in the first place! Their understanding has been 'bent' by what most preachers teach about this subject and think that being called equals being called to preach!

So just what is all this about a "calling?"

Exactly WHAT is a person "called TO DO?"

The Apostle Peter was asked a similar question after he had preached to many about the murder of Jesus.

Peter had told them they were complicit in the murder of Jesus and most of the people who were listening became distraught and finally asked Peter a very pointed question!

He had just finished telling them that King David was STILL dead and buried and that he had NOT "ascended into Heaven!"

This, of course, was a shocking statement in itself considering the traditional beliefs they already carried!

He was also chastising them for their complicity in the murder of the Savior!!

We will begin in Acts 2:22

Acts 2:22 "Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ."

This caused a tremendous consternation in those who heard this!!

37 "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?"

Yes! They were distraught! The realization came to them that they had helped crucify the Lord and Savior, Jesus!!

Yes, men and brethren, what SHALL WE DO?

The same consternation filled them that sometimes fills those who are NOW being called, and those being called now have been taught and have believed that someone who is called, is "called to the ministry" or some such leadership job as that!

Many people have gone forward holding that belief, trying to preach, and have failed miserably because of their lack of knowledge of scripture and OF GOD!!!

Especially do they lack a knowledge of who God really is and WHAT God really wants for mankind!!!

What then IS a person called to do, when they are called by God? It IS a FAIR question!!

We can learn the very basics by continuing to read what Peter told those questioners there in Acts 2:38.

Peter replied,

" … Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
verse 39 "For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

Just WHAT is this promise made to 'as many as the Lord our God shall call'?

The promise of forgiveness of sin, and the gift of the Holy Spirit! And of course, the gift of the Holy Spirit is the gift of eternal life at that first resurrection, because without the Holy Spirit living in a person, there is NO eternal life for any human being!!

Rom. 8:9-11 "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you."

Yes, if God's Holy Spirit is IN a person, then that person will be "quickened", or made alive eternally at the return of Christ. And of course, if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, they are NONE OF HIS!!!

One of the things to which a person is called, is ETERNAL LIFE!

Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1Ti 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
1Ti 6:19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Yes, eternal life "whereunto thou art also called"!!

A person who is "called" is called to be "the children of God!"

Mt 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

Those who are "called" are sinners called to "repentance" and "baptism (verse 38)."

Mr 2:17 "When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

A person who is "called" is called to be a FRIEND of Jesus!

Joh 15:15 "Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you."

A person who is "called" is called to be a SAINT!! All of God's children ARE saints!!

Ro 1:7 "To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ."

Those who are "called" are called to be:

Conformed to the image of God's Son.

To be among the firstborn of many brethren.

Ro. 8:29 "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Those who are "called" are called:

To be justified.

To be glorified.

Ro 8:30 "Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified".

So what more can I say?

We are "called to eternal life."

We are called to be "children of God!"

We are called to "repentance."

We are called to "baptism."

We are called to be "a friend of Jesus."

We are called to be "saints."

We are called to be "conformed to the image of His Son."

We are called to be "the firstborn of many brethren."

We are called to be "justified."

We are called to be "glorified."

THAT IS WHAT WE ARE CALLED TO DO!!

If God has the ministry in mind for you "when you qualify", then that is HIS WILL, not yours!

It is NOT something to seek at the very first of your begettal!

Let God work His work in you, getting you ready for the marvelous things I have just listed above, and if there is anything else it will be shown you at God's time for you!

Why not just let God lead you by His Holy Spirit and reap the rewards He has for you at that First Resurrection?
