Yes! I Want To Be Like God!

A few years ago, I was engaged in a 'religious' discussion with a friend who must have thought I was 'crazy'.. In the course of the conversation, I happened to mention that I wanted to 'be like God'. Wow! They were astonished! They basically said to me, "Go ahead! Be like God!... work really hard and struggle and when you finally make it, please fix all this world's problems!"

As I said, they probably thought I was crazy to think that "I", a mere human being, could ever BE LIKE GOD. You may be thinking the same thing! I know it must sound silly, but why? Why should it sound silly?

Let's think this over! Even though you may not believe that anyone could actually BE LIKE GOD, isn't it OK to WANT to be like Him? I mean, really, what better EXAMPLE could one find to pattern their life after? Even the Bible SAYS that He left us an example...

1Peter 2:21 "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:"

My friend explained as how they were glad that THEY had found the 'true God' and how He didn't need them or anyone else to help Him. I explained to them that I had good reason to want to be like Him, and that HE wanted ME to be like Him!

Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Not only does He 'want' me to be like Him... He COMMANDED me to be like Him!

Friends, listen! God is perfect! He has always been perfect, and He will always BE perfect! And He wants His Children to BE PERFECT...like Him! Can you believe it?

I can believe it... I can see it and read it... right there in my bible! Can you?

If you call yourself a "Christian", what do you think God wants you to be? Mat. 5:48 ought to give you a clue! So, why not open up your own bible and read it? Read it, think about it, ponder it... Think it over. Then, take it to God in prayer!

How Perfect?

I can see it, read it, think it over, ponder it, study it, pray about it.. CAN YOU?

And, IF He wants me to be perfect, and IF I'm willing to admit that He has actually COMMANDED ME to BE PERFECT...(or, to 'become perfect')... I can then say "yes Lord, HOW PERFECT would you like me to be?"

God has anticipated that question and He has already answered it... WILL WE BELIEVE what He said?

How perfect would you like me to be?

Mat 5:48 ... even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Can we focus on this? -"...even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect..."

Friends, that is REALLY perfect! It's easy to 'say' "yes Lord", but I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, there dwells no good thing! I'm just a human being with human tendencies, passions, desires, emotions, and weaknesses... human thoughts.. and if I dwell on all the things that I am, compared to all that He is, it seems rather hopeless for me to be able to obey that command.

In my studies, I found that the word, "Be" in that scripture, was better translated as 'become'..ahhh!!! Now that is a little easier to grasp! "Become ye therefore perfect.." I know that in this life, I CAN NOT BE as perfect as the Father! No Way! Humans can't do that!! Not in this life! But, what about the 'next life'??

"Become ye therefore perfect..." Yes, Lord! But, how? I am just a human being...with me, it is not possible!..

In Matthew 19, Jesus was speaking to the disciples about SALVATION:

Mat 19:25-26 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

"Be ye therefore SAVED.."

Think about it! What if the Bible said, "Be ye therefore saved..."???

Would that sound silly? Would that cause us to recoil and not believe that it was possible? It IS possible for God to save us... Right?

Well, what if God not only wanted to SAVE us, but what if He wanted u to be LIKE HIM???

Mar 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Jesus said that ALL things are possible to him[or her] that believeth..

Yes! I want to be like God! He is PERFECT! He never SINS... and, He will never DIE, and He will always be GOOD and He will always be... well, PERFECT!

Now, you may be thinking that I have a desire for that which is out of my reach... but, is it? Why not want to be like Him? Again, what better example could anyone have as far as someone to be like???

My friend confided in me as to how they believed that they were only in God's way... they thought that He had done them the 'favor' of wiping away what 'they thought they were, and what they thought they had to do, and what they thought they could accomplish.." Just in the way... not really involved in the 'process', [what ever that process was??]... and they were satisfied to accept and believe that God didn't 'need' them... and yet, GOD created man, and can we ask, "Does God just do things on a whim?" And you can call me crazy if you want, for wanting to be like Him, but listen! God made us, for a REASON! Everything God has done here on earth, had a reason!

You and I, are that reason! You and I are the reason that Jesus gave His very life on that stake, and the reason He, and the Father, are working so hard to complete the PLAN that they started so very long ago! You and I are NOT in His way!

But some will say, "God is God, and we're just His creation".. True, but that doesn't mean that the creation is 'worthless', or 'in the way'...

Millions of professing Christians WANT to be saved. But why would God WANT to save us? Are we to be just an imperfect diversion for Him? Something to occupy His time as the ages roll by? Or, do we have a greater potential?

We need to consider, Why did God make man... at all?? and, of all things, WHY make them in His Image? Or, in His 'likeness'?

This may sound like heresy to you, but listen! God made us LIKE HIM 'physically', so that eventually, we would be LIKE HIM -'spiritually'-!

I realize that is not the message you are used to hearing, but it IS the TRUTH that Christ brought! It is the Truth! Part and parcel of the Gospel Message!

Make no mistake, WE can't do this! Only God can finish the process!

But that doesn't mean that we should not WANT it, or that WE don't have our part!

My friend asked, "Where does it tell you in the Bible to make yourself like God?"

WE can't "make ourselves like God"... but He can!! We can't 'make ourselves perfect' in this life.. But, we can STRIVE in that direction. We can practice RIGHTEOUSNESS.. We can practice being like Him... We can start the process.. But only God can finish it!!

Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Mar 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

God COMMANDS IT and INSISTS that it is possible!! It can be done!

Do you know the Gospel? The Gospel (the true Gospel) is Good News!! It is the good news of God's coming Kingdom and His World Ruling Government over all mankind... and, it is also the Good News of His love and mercy and of the completion of His CREATIVE ACTS...

For us to be like Him!

There is something the world doesn't know, or understand: The true Gospel! This entire world is deceived!

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Speaking to those who have repented of their sins and received the Holy Spirit, He said...

1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God,...

Those who have been called, and have repented of their sins, and been forgiven, ARE NOW the sons of God...(BEGOTTEN, not yet BORN)... they are the sons of God right now, even while they continue to live out their physical lives, they are NOW His sons...

However, right now...

1Jn 3:2 it doth not yet appear what we shall be:...

They are His sons NOW, but what they "shall be", DOTH NOT YET APPEAR... They are going to BE something other than what they are now, and that 'something' doth not, or hath not yet appeared... WHAT IS IT??

1Jn 3:2 ... but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Read that again!! "...but we know that, when He shall appear, WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM; for we shall see Him as He is"

When Jesus returns, we, who are now the sons of God, SHALL BE LIKE HIM!

THAT is the PLAIN TRUTH of your Bible and part of the True Gospel Message!

Again, my friend told me sarcastically, "Go ahead! Be like God!... work really hard and struggle and when you finally make it, please fix all this world's problems!"

Friends, when Christ returns, and makes us like Him, then He, (and WE) are going to do just that!

Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Friends, this world has been DECEIVED by a false gospel message that preaches and teaches that we are just in the way! But God doesn't think that!! He made us for a reason!!

Rom 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

The whole creation is groaning and travailing in pain because of SIN and it's evil results! This earth and it's society NEEDS GOD and His RULERSHIP! It is waiting for the coming KINGDOM of God, and the manifestaion of the SONS OF GOD... God has a plan and a purpose for us!!

Under Christ's leadership and guidance, HE, (and WE) are going to work together to finally FIX ALL THIS WORLD'S PROBLEMS!

He wants us to be like Him, and We are going to BE LIKE HIM! With God, ALL THINGS are possible!

Do YOU want to be like God? I hope so!

May God bless your efforts as you strive in that direction!
