Is Easter Your New Covenant With Christ?

God 'called' the Children of Israel out of 'sin' (Egypt - a type of sin - Rev. 11:3) using Moses to interface with them and with Pharaoh.

He 'baptized' them in the cloud and in the sea (1Cor. 10:2). Afterwards they were led into the 'Wilderness of Sin' (Exodus 16:1) where they rebelled and murmurred against God. Because of their rebellious ways, God led them about in the Wilderness of Sin until most of the older people who had been in Egypt, died out. Only a few of those who were in captivity in Egypt, along with younger children of the Israelites were allowed to cross over into the Promised Land!

Following that typology, those today who are called and baptized are, in effect, wandering in a 'wilderness of sin'. We have yet to "cross over" into the Promised Land of God's coming Kingdom!

We see debauchery, hate, homosexuality, theft, adultery, and much, much more, growing in the lives of people as they continue to 'rid themselves' of any image of God. They love living in 'Egypt' (sin), because, by and large, they have been taught to decide for themselves what is sin and what is not.

Rather than going to God's Holy Word to find out what is sin, they make up their own minds. Even people who attend church have done so. Some have decided that sin is dancing, playing cards, going to movies, or a multitude of other things.

They never go to God to find out how He defines sin.

1Jo 3:4 "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."

Yes, sin is the transgressing or BREAKING of God's Law. However, most churches teach, and most traditional Christians believe, that God' Law has been DONE AWAY!

Priests, pastors and preachers teach that Jesus came and fulfilled the law. Therefore, they say, He kept the commandments for us and we are not required to obey them any longer.

They say that now all we have to do is keep the TWO GREAT COMMANDMENTS, love God and love neighbor, never realizing that those TWO are merely a summation of the Ten Commandments... the first four teaching how we are to love God, and the last six teaching how we are to love neighbor.

At this time of year we are approaching one of the most highly observed holidays of the traditional Christian Church. That is the one called Easter, where people celebrate the holiday by buying new clothes and 'easter' bonnets. They observe it by coloring eggs and placing them into baskets. They tell the children the "easter bunny" brought the eggs. Some bake 'hot-cross buns' and eat ham for the 'easter meal.'

Churches teach all this also and hold services somewhere outside where they can observe the 'sun' rising in the east and teach about the 'risen son', trying to equate all this with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Some churches even hold these 'sunrise services' in graveyards! Some on hilltops under a grove of trees. Anywhere available to them in order to watch the sun break the horizon.

The people are NEVER taught by their priests, pastors or preachers that God STRONGLY condemns this kind of practice, even presenting it to them in the scriptures.

Eze 8:16 "And he brought me into the inner court of the LORDíS house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, [were] about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east."

When this is pointed out to them, they make excuses claiming they are not worshipping the sun.

They have adopted a religious practice directly out of the Babylonian Mystery Religion which was established by Semiramis to worship her dead son/husband Nimrod.

God decries and condemns people who are using PAGAN CUSTOMS and PAGAN WORSHIP to try to worship Him!!

Deut. 12:28 "Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
29 When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;
30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

And yet with these CLEAR SCRIPTURES, traditional Christians will STILL make excuses and continue in these practices which God considers ABOMINABLE!!!

God is THE GREAT GOD!! We are NOT to worship Him using pagan practices or even our OWN practices, substituted for those God tells us to use to worship Him.

We are to worship Him in (His) SPIRIT and in (His) TRUTH!!(John 4:24) Not in the spirit and falsehood that others have worshipped their gods!

If one realizes that Satan has created a 'mirror image' of true worship in this society that causes people to worship HIM using his way instead of true worship, then the ways he has instituted to DECEIVE people will be recognized and they will no longer be deceived!!

Satan began a long time ago teaching his ways through his 'ministers' who appear as 'ministers of righteousness!'

2Cor. 11:14 "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."

How can one tell when a minister is one of Satan's 'ministers of righteousness?'

There is only ONE WAY!! We must use GOD'S LAMP!!

Ps 119:105 "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

God's Word is Jesus Christ. Today we have the WORD of God where we can open it up and SEE what the truth is about subjects in which we are interested.

If a 'minister' is preaching something that leads one away from TRUE WORSHIP, then we must get into God's Word and find out what is the truth, just as the noble Bereans did when preached to by the Apostle Paul.

Of course, we must keep in mind that the Great Deceiver puts a spin on God's Truth, just as he did when he was tempting and trying Jesus in the wilderness!

He told Jesus:
Mt 4:6 "And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in [their] hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone."

Satan quoted scripture which, in and of itself was truth. However, he put his SPIN upon it as Jesus showed.

Mat. 4:7
'Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

Jesus KNEW it would be wrong (sin) to test God as to whether or not He would save Him after a deliberate attempt to commit suicide. He knew this because He was a STUDENT OF GOD'S WORD! He spent time reading and studying God's Word. He spent time, on His knees, talking to God about everything.

WE need to spend time in God's Word (His Lamp) which can show us "The Way" of righteousness, and we know from previous articles and God's Word that righteousness is the keeping of God's Commandments (Psalms 119:172).

Not just the Ten, but ALL of them!!

So given that this treatise is talking about the Spring festival, which most people have mistakenly replaced with the observance of Easter, we need to ask what does God expect of us in the Spring time?

He expects us to observe and keep His New Covenant Passover!

Paul tells us that Jesus IS OUR PASSOVER. (1Cor. 5:7)

What does that mean? The Old Covenant Passover was one which pointed to the one-time sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the sins of anyone who would accept that sacrifice and begin to live "The Way of God."

In Egypt, the Children of Israel were commanded to take from their herds a lamb, or a goat kid, one year old. It had to be a MALE lamb or kid that was unblemished. It was to be kept up from the 10th day of the first month until the 14th day of the first month and then killed in the afternoon of the 14th.

It's blood was to be drained and painted upon the two door posts and the lintel of the house in which they were observing this occasion so that the Death Angel would PASS OVER the house where they were during the slaughter of the first born of Egypt.

The sacrifice of that lamb or kid pointed to the ultimate sacrifice which Jesus would pay for the sins of all mankind. (Those who would accept that sacrifice and observe the night He established as a memorial to His DEATH.)

That observance is fraught with symbolism of Christ and His death.

Let's look at some scriptures:
Mat. 26:26 "And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Fatherís kingdom.
30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives."

The bread represented His body and the wine symbolized His blood.

His body was beaten and disfigured more than any man's had ever been.

Isa. 53:14 "As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:"

Isa. 54:3 "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 ∂ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 ∂ Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand."

His outward appearance was so marred (more than any man) that people were astonished he was still alive! He came to His own Jewish people and he was despised, and they were ashamed of Him!

He was wounded and bruised for our LAWLESSNESS (sins).

AND BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED!! Yes we are able to approach God for physical healing, but more than that, upon our repentance of sins, God will HEAL OUR MINDS, and give us the ability to begin to THINK LIKE HIM!!

Yes God, the Father, made Jesus' soul (His very life) and OFFERING FOR SIN. Jesus had accepted upon Himself ALL THE SINS OF MANKIND. He became a sinner for us! He was baptized so that he and we could be forgiven for those PAST SINS. And He paid the penalty of DEATH for those sins.

Had the Father not resurrected Jesus, He would have remained dead.

Do YOU realize what a price Jesus and The Father PAID because of OUR SINS?

The one who created all mankind had to come and die for our sins in order for us to be justified (made right with God) and be able to receive the promise of salvation from sin!

Jesus wasn't just separated from God (while He continued to live). He DIED. He GAVE UP THE GHOST (SPIRIT) as it shows in:

Lu 23:46 "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit (Gr.=Pneuma): and having said thus, he gave up the ghost (Gr.=Ekpneo - to breathe one's last breath, to expire)."

Because Jesus had become sin for mankind, God the Father had to turn away from Him. When He did, Jesus recognized that the Holy Spirit had left Him and He CRIED out:

Mt 27:46 "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

After this cry, Jesus died. He was removed from the stake and buried before sunset according to Jewish law that a body could not remain on the stake on the Sabbath day... and that Sabbath (the next day) was a High Sabbath... the first day of the Feast of unleavened bread.

Joh 19:31 "The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away."

This day that Jesus died was not the preparation day for the weekly Sabbath as most assume, but the preparation day for the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the first day of which was a Sabbath day.

There are 7 High Sabbath days during the year and they are listed in Lev. 23.

All these days, including the weekly Sabbath, are Holy commanded assemblies (convocations)!

These are part of the commandments God expects us to KEEP. They were instituted FOREVER and are to be observed in their seasons. Of course, Lev. 23 shows us all this.

Now what about this New Covenant Passover?

Jesus called His disciples together and sent two to prepare an upper room so that He could observe the Passover with them.

Luke 22:11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

They ate a meal and then as the meal was ending, Jesus did a very strange thing:

1Cor. 11:24 "And when he had given thanks, he brake it (the bread), and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lordís death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lordís body.
30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

This ceremony began a COMPLETELY NEW, NEVER BEFORE OBSERVED memorial to Jesus Christ's death!

After this ceremony, Jesus then did this:

John 13:3 "Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciplesí feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one anotherís feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

The bread Jesus broke was a symbol of His broken body, which was to happen only a few hours later. That broken body, as we have shown earlier, was to allow us to be healed, body and spirit!

The word 'testament' in verse 25 (and other verses) should have been rendered "Covenant" for this truly was a NEW COVENANT which Jesus was making with His disciples (and those who would believe on His name later. (John 17:20)

Jesus then took the cup of wine and passed it around telling them to take a sip and that the wine represented His Blood which was to be shed for their sins.

Today when we partake of the broken, unleavened bread, and the wine, we realize the symbols for what they are... the representation of Jesus' broken body and shed blood.

Those symbols remind us of the death which He suffered FOR OUR SINS. He was beaten within and inch of His life.

The Psalmist tells us this, prophesying Jesus' own words on the stake:

Ps 22:17 "I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me."

Psalms 22:14 tells us how Jesus was feeling at the time of His sacrifice:

Ps 22:14 "I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels."

Yes, that cat-o-nine tails whip with the bits of stone, glass and metal tied on the ends, whipped and cut into our Savior with the vengence of Satan. Jesus was whipped into a pile of flesh resembling hamburger meat. He was almost unrecognizable.

That is what Jesus wanted us to REMEMBER when we partake of the symbols at the New Covenant Passover. He wanted us to remember His death and how it actually happened.

He wanted us to remember that a soldier had shoved a spear into His side and His blood and water poured out, given for our justification (being made right with God)!

The observance of Easter carries one away from recognizing and knowing just how much Jesus went through, and just how much He gave up, to become our Savior.

The observance of Easter keeps people's minds off the sacrifice, AND onto things such as clothes, eggs, rabbits, and THE SUN RISING. All these are a carryover from the Babylonian mystery religion.

And all these latter things God has condemned in His Word when they are applied as worship toward Him (Deut.12:28 - 32).

What about you? Will you continue to observe days which carry one away from God, or will you begin to observe days which pull, drag, and draw one TO God?

I hope it is the latter. If there is any help you need in beginning your observance of God's High Sabbath Holy Days, we are here to serve you.

If there are any questions, please ask.
