Are YOU NOT A Part of The Body of Christ?

From the breakup of the Church of God there have been many other church groups which have been formed, most of them patterned after the church organization which they left.

Those who have chosen to remain apart from any publicly organized group or church have been ostracized, being called many names such as 'independent' and 'splinter group'. Many people, of course, were disfellowshipped and 'marked' by the so-called 'parent church' and were disparaged to the extreme.

Many church groups claim that those who do not belong to some organized religious group are "not in the Church of God", or that those who refuse to 'repent', 'obey' and 'follow' the 'core' church are then no longer a child of God or a member of the Body of Christ!

Some ministers from some of the church groups which came out of the 'parent church' have preached that the 'splinter groups' have been sent "strong delusion" by God that they should believe a lie.

Some ministers teach that one can only receive "quality" teaching when one is a member (in good standing) of the "core church."

These ministers seem oblivious to the fact that they are a part of a "splinter group" which split away from the "parent church even though their particular church group might be quite large and taking in a lot of money!"

Are YOU Not a Part of The Body of Christ?

When God calls a person and that person begins to repent of their sins and obey the Laws of God, he receives God's Holy Spirit IN him. That receiving of God's Spirit makes that person a Child of God, begotten to God by the power of His Holy Spirit. That person then becomes a member of God's Family and a member of The Body of Christ!

God then PLACES that person in the Body AS IT PLEASES HIM (God)! There are many members but only ONE body, don't you see?

Paul explains it this way:

Rom. 12:3-5 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

The word "office" in the above scripture is related to "doing" rather than filling some particular position of authority (Strong's 4234 Praxis = A doing, a mode of acting.)

Far to many men "think of themselves more highly than they ought to think!" They have accepted the mistaken idea that God has placed them into an "office" over others in the Body, and therefore superior to those they are "over".

Jesus was very specific about "rulership" in His Church:

Mark 10:35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, (called the Sons of Thunder in other scriptures) come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
36 And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?
37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.
38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
39 And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:
40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.
42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister (from Strong's 1249 GR: diakonos =one who executes the commands of another, especially of a master, a servant):
44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many

In spite of all this, and much more, churches are 'organized' with a hierarchical structure resembling the Catholic church. There is ONE MAN who claims to be the HEAD of that particular church, with others below him in RANK OF AUTHORITY.

Is it any wonder that we find politics within the churches of God? Everyone seems to want to be "over" everyone else in the church.

Even the great Archangel Lucifer desired that!

Many ministers down through the ages have mistakenly believed that Lucifer wanted to "knock God off His Throne" and take over completely!

However, they don't realize that Lucifer was smarter than that. The story is one which is twisted to say what most ministers mistakenly believe.

Let's go to God's Word for verification of what I am saying, because my opinions are just that -- opinions -- and, as you know, I'm big on putting scriptures in context into my articles.

Isa. 14:12-14 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars (angels) of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation (the Body of Christ), in the sides of the north (on a throne beside God and The Word (Jesus)):
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Yes, Lucifer wanted to be LIKE the Most High. He wanted to be a part of the God Head just as The Word was a part of the God Head, but Lucifer wanted to be OVER the angels and over the Children of God.

That would then have effectively blocked off the angels and the children from direct access to the Father for they would then have to go through Lucifer and he would then, for all intents and purposes, be God to them.

However, God's plan for His Family includes a "throne of authority" beside Him and Jesus the Christ for what is termed in scripture, the Bride of Christ. That bride is composed of all those who have been given God's Holy Spirit and they will then REIGN with Him after the First Resurrection!

Do you see where Lucifer's desire was taking him? He wanted to be a "TRINITY" with God Almighty and The Word in RULING OVER everything else, with all of this authority CHANNELED THROUGH LUCIFER.

I am sorry to say this, but that is exactly what a man is saying when he claims to be the "physical" HEAD of God's Church on Earth!!

That is exactly what The Catholic Pope claims when he sits upon "the holy see" and makes "infallible" pronouncements!! He claims to be acting as an intermediary between man and God! His pronouncements then, according to the Catholics, become actual commands of God Himself.

When we look at the way the Apostle Paul describes the Body of Christ, there can be no room for TWO heads of the Body!

Let's look at those scriptures.

1 Cor. 12:1 ¶ Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

12 ¶ For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
27 ¶ Now ye are the body of Christ, and members (a part to some degree or another) in particular.

Yes! EVERY MAN is given GIFTS from God.

It has become fashionable, because of vanity, self-righteousness, and the desire of authority over others, for men to declare these GIFTS to be "offices of authority."

Paul lists some of these gifts that are given to each member of the body as God wills, for God's purposes! And yet NOTHING is said here about RANK of AUTHORITY!!

1 Cor. 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles (those who are sent), secondarily prophets (those God uses to speak to the church about express things, not given in scripture), thirdly teachers (those who preach God's Word from His Holy Scriptures), after that miracles (some of the Body have that gift), then gifts of healings (some are able to heal), helps (those inspired to help others), governments (leaders to keep confusion out of the congregations), diversities of tongues (various languages for those different nationalities).
29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Paul then goes into what we read in Chapter 13, which we call the Love Chapter, and Paul shows THAT as being the BEST GIFT.

Should there be authority in the Church?

Of course! When ANY group of people get together there is a need for someone to keep order in the group. As the people went to worship God in the first century church, there were those who were leaders that kept order and "gave the nod" to those who desired to speak or read from the scriptures.

Their services were totally different from that which has been structured today. The churches of today follow the Catholic way of services with one person speaking and everyone else listening.

Is that wrong? I don't know. Probably! Nowhere in scripture can we find directions on how to come together and how to conduct ourselves while together except that there "should be no confusion."

That religious services now follow the pagan way of doing things makes them wrong IN MY MIND. God has designated that we worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. (John 4:23-24) He tells us that He doesn't inspire confusion, but of peace. (1 Cor. 14:33)

Deut. 12:28-32 Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;
Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. (Trying to worship the true God using their practices!)
Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

All down through history, those who are discerners of the truth can see Satan trying to MIRROR everything God is doing. He is trying to prove he is just as good and as powerful as God. (Read the article "Satan's Mirror Image" in our web site archives for more on this.)

Are YOU a Member of The Body of Christ?

You are if you have God's Holy Spirit!! It doesn't make any difference if you are not still fellowshipping with the church which once claimed to be "the only true church of God on earth!

Were you 'disfellowshipped' for meeting with another church group? Were you "delivered to Satan" by the minister? Were you told that if you weren't in his church group you weren't IN THE church of God?

Scripture tells us what happens when we are "kicked out" of some worldly church (no matter what they claim.)

John 10:27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
I and my Father are one.

NO MAN is able to 'disfellowship' us from God and Jesus!! NO man can put us "out of the church" because NO MAN put us into the church, don't you see???

Only God or Jesus can put us out, and they choose not to do that once we have been given a part of the Holy Spirit!!

Of course, we can put ourselves out by walking away from God, after we know the truth. However, as long as we live there is always the privilege of repentance which God so graciously bestows upon mankind.

That is unless we blaspheme God's Holy Spirit, totally reject Him after we completely understand His plan of salvation, mercy, pardon, and grace.

To answer the question, are you in the Body of Christ... if you have God's Holy Spirit you have become one of His Children and NO MAN can then "put you out" of that Family!!

Please realize, there is ONLY ONE HEAD of the Church!! That is Jesus the Christ!!! There are NO human heads through which you must go to reach Christ and God the Father!! When you repented and began to obey God's Law and then received His Holy Spirit in YOUR mind, you were placed OUT OF REACH of anything man could do to you spiritually!!

Brethren, God IS our Father! He WILL protect us against ALL beings or persons as long as we remain faithful to our calling!!

May God truly bless you as you seek to obey Him and serve Him and the brethren.

Your friend,

Ken Browder, Editor
