What Is PREDESTINATION?

So many people have a complete mis-understanding of what and who is God. They believe He is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent.

Is He all those things? In this modern world we have a great problem in communications. It is called semantics, the meaning of words. How many people even check a dictionary any more? Is a dictionary even relevant to modern society which makes up its own words?

The first thing we need to do is give meaning to the words used above.
    1. Omnipotent   - Having unlimited power and authority.
    2. Omnipresent - Present in all places at the same time.
    3. Omniscient    - Knowing all things.

As far as the first (omnipotent), the scriptures totally bear this out. However, the second and third are up for question.

Let's look at omnipresent first, God everywhere, all the time.

The first incident to look at is in the Garden of Eden.

Gen. 3:8 "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden." (KJV)

Hmmmm....God walking in the Garden enjoying the cool of the day. If He were everywhere, all the time, He would not have to WALK in the Garden, would he?

The next incident happened here:

Gen. 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the

Hmmmm....here God had to COME DOWN to see the city and tower which men had built.

Rev. 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Hmmmm....God has special spirits that go through all the earth, watching for things to report to God.

God is a Spirit Being and is in ONE PLACE at ONE TIME. If He wants to personally see something, it seems that He GOES TO THAT PLACE or THING.

Now, let's look at omniscient, i.e.. all-knowing. We will go back to the incident in the Garden of Eden to see about this.

Gen. 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Was He just PLAYING a game with Adam and Eve here?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

Was He still playing with them here? No, He DID NOT KNOW THESE THINGS! He didn't know where Adam and Eve were (He isn't 'omnipresent' or 'omniscient') and He didn't know who had told them they were naked, and whether or not they had eaten of the tree from which He had commanded them not to eat.

Did He have a really good idea of what the answers would be to these questions? I'm certain He did. However, it is evident (to me at least) He has CHOSEN to NOT KNOW everything.

Does God know the choices we will make about various things we do in this world?

Deut. 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

God is asking mankind to CHOOSE LIFE. This shows in no uncertain terms that they have the capability to CHOOSE DEATH! Does God KNOW what each person will choose?

If he does, then people DON'T HAVE A CHOICE! The choosing would just be a formality, with God allowing mankind to THINK THEY HAVE A CHOICE when they really don't, don't you see?

A choice is just that....choosing between two or more things or directions. If God KNEW what your final choice would be, then that wouldn't be a choice...that would be "programming."

Is mankind programmed to "make choices?"

I don't think so!

If God knows that people will be lost, why didn't he just not have them born? IS GOD PLAYING GAMES WITH MANKIND? Is He sitting on His throne in Heaven and enjoying the futility some have of trying to please Him when He knows they are destined to be lost?

THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!! God just isn't that kind of God. The scriptures don't portray Him that way either. THAT NOTION IS SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN MADE UP FROM MANKIND'S OWN IMAGINATION.

Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but BECAME VAIN IN THEIR IMAGINATIONS, and their foolish heart was darkened.

2 Corinthians 10:5 CASTING DOWN IMAGINATIONS, and every high thing THAT EXALTETH ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Then what is this predestination thing that people think they understand?

What is "predestinated" anyway?

Let's look at the scriptures that talk about predestination:

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Some are predestined TO BE CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF HIS SON. Those who conform to the image of the Son will live a righteous life as Jesus did.

Romans 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Some are predestined TO BE CALLED, JUSTIFIED, and GLORIFIED.

Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Some are predestinated UNTO THE ADOPTION OF CHILDREN by Jesus Christ Himself.

Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Some are predestined ACCORDING TO THE PURPOSE of God.

Let's put it all together

Some are to be called. Those who are called can CHOOSE to accept that call. They will then be JUSTIFIED (by the blood of Christ), and eventually, (if they continue to walk according to that calling), will be GLORIFIED at the FIRST RESURRECTION.

Those who accept the calling, and are justified, will then be "begotten" with God's Holy Spirit and become children of God (not yet born) by that adoption of children through Jesus Christ's Sacrifice.

Those who are called, chosen, justified, and begotten, will become a part of the HEIRS of God, and JOINT-HEIRS with Jesus Christ, because the PURPOSE OF GOD is to CREATE (sire, beget) children into HIS FAMILY!!!

Ok. What about this FOREKNOWING mentioned in Romans 8:29?

Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Chosen US before the FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD?
Us who?

We have seen above that the predestination was to a calling, purpose and inheritance.
Before the foundation of the world, Elohim (the God Family, at that time Almighty God and The Word God - John 1:1)PURPOSED TO CREATE A FAMILY. They then created ANGELS to assist in this WORK. One of those angels was Lucifer whose job from his creation was as a COVERING CHERUB (Ezek. 28:16)

He was placed over the earth after it was created. God renamed him SATAN (adversary) after he rebelled.

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the GOD OF THIS WORLD hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Yes Satan has a throne over this world. Jesus came to depose him, and qualified to sit on that throne when He met Satan in the wilderness. He will RETURN to sit upon the throne of His Father David when He returns to this earth.

King David will be resurrected and sit upon A THRONE OVER THE TWELVE TRIBES OF ISRAEL. Christ, however, will be OVER THE WHOLE EARTH and Satan will be put away.

The Godhead "foreknew" they would call a group of people to set an example   and to be children in the family of God. They DID NOT KNOW exactly who they would be, given the myriad of combinations that could result from the marriages of mankind. It is evident they would look for certain things (whatever those things might be) in the makeup of each individual, and then CALL them to make a choice for God or for the world.

A suggestion of some of the criteria used by God to make that decision to CALL could be found in:

Ezek. 15:4 And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.
5 None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.
6 And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live.
7 I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare.
8 Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.
9 Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.
10 I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.
11 I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.
12 And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.
13 Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.
14 And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.

Also:

1 Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the FOOLISH THINGS of the world to CONFOUND THE WISE; and God hath CHOSEN THE WEAK THINGS OF THE WORLD to CONFOUND THE THINGS WHICH ARE MIGHTY;

It is VERY possible God has called those who are "less than nothing" to confound "those who are something" in this world! What better way to convince someone who is a MIGHTY ONE in the earth than by taking less than nothing and making a child of God from it!!

So, putting it all together.....The Godhead (GodFamily) PURPOSED before the CREATION OF THE WORLD to CALL some to make the CHOICE of whether or not to become CHILDREN and HEIRS of God (joint-heirs with Christ). These people would be qualified to be called by God according to His DIVINE PURPOSE of BEGETTING A FAMILY FOR GOD. The Choice of who to call would be made by God THROUGH Jesus Christ and those who ACCEPTED that call would have to COME TO GOD through the BLOOD of Jesus' Sacrifice. They would then have to LIVE A RIGHTEOUS LIFE (according to God's commandments - PS. 119-172) producing fruit worthy of REPENTANCE and DOING GOOD through their lifetimes.

They would then be BORN INTO THE FAMILY OF GOD THROUGH A RESURRECTION to SPIRIT LIFE receiving the INHERITANCE THAT JESUS ALSO RECEIVED WHEN HE WAS RESURRECTED! Jesus was the FIRSTBORN (first of the firstfruits) from THE DEAD.

Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Those to be resurrected later at the FIRST RESURRECTION would then be the REST OF THE FIRSTFRUITS.

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen FROM THE DEAD, and become the FIRSTFRUITS OF THEM THAT SLEPT.
1 Corinthians 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s AT HIS COMING.
James 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be A KIND OF FIRSTFRUITS of his creatures.
Revelation 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, BEING THE FIRSTFRUITS UNTO GOD AND THE LAMB.

Is each individual foreknown and predestined by God before the world was created?
NO. God waited until each person was born, looked at them, made His decision.

The predestination was that WHEN mankind was created and began to have children that God would then call those who fit His Divine Purpose! The predestination was that children would be called out of the mass of humanity, some in the Early Harvest and some in the Late Harvest. These early and late harvests are pictured by The Feast of Unleavened Bread and the Feast of Tabernacles.

I hope and pray that God will grant His understanding to anyone who reads this, and calls them out of the morass of mis-understanding about Him, His Christ, and His Word.

May God Bless your understanding.
