How are the dead raised up? ...
and with what body do they come?

When a discussion about the resurrection comes up in conversations, there is usually much confusion with most people for just about everyone goes to the book of Revelation when they discuss that subject.

Of course, (in my opinion) that is not a good place to start that kind of discussion because the Book of Revelation is filled with symbolism that can be quite confusing if one doesn't have a good, solid knowledge of the whole Bible.

One of the questions most people ask is "how will we look after the resurrection?", or perhaps "will we have a body?" Some even believe that one who is resurrected will be some kind of "essence" like a "spiritual cloud" or some kind of "dispersion" that can be anywhere. The reason some of that is believed is because they have been taught (by men) that God doesn't have a body. They claim He is just some kind of "essence" which is everywhere all the time so then they believe those who are resurrected will be just like that.

Of course, that is NOT based upon scriptural truth!

What WILL we be like after the resurrection?

The Apostle Paul broaches that question quite a bit in his epistles and we can learn much from his writings, but first we need to go back to the beginning.

In Genesis we read something that most misunderstand because they don't have a solid base of biblical knowledge. That scripture is in the very first chapter.

Gen. 1:26 "And God said, Let us make man in our image (looking the way we look), (and) after(wards) our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

Yes, mankind is made RIGHT NOW in the image of God. Those who are in the resurrection will be made IN HIS LIKENESS.

We are now in the image of God. We have a head, arms, torso, legs and feet. THAT MEANS GOD HAS THOSE THINGS ALSO!! Mankind's average height is about five feet and ten inches. THAT MEANS GOD IS ALSO ABOUT THAT HEIGHT!!

But some will ask, how do you KNOW that is how God looks? Because, as the song says, the Bible tells me so!

We read in the first chapter of Revelation exactly how God looks RIGHT NOW!

Rev. 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man (Jesus), clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps (the chest) with a golden girdle.
14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

There you have it. Of course, this is describing the risen Jesus but The Father is like Him so we can know how they both look as SPIRIT BEINGS.

They wear clothes, have a body, head, hair, eyes, feet, voice, hands, mouth, and face (countenance). If we are in His image, that is what we have (which is quite obvious to anyone).

God is only in ONE place at ONE TIME as shone in several scriptures. An example would be in Genesis 11.

Gen. 11:5 "And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one anotherís speech.

Another example is in the Garden of Eden.

Gen. 3:8 "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 "And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?"

God was walking in the garden (He was in one place at one time), and Adam and Eve HID themselves from Him. (God wasn't everywhere all at once).

There are other examples but I need to continue with the main subject of the article.

The Apostle John addressed this "likeness" we have been discussing in :

1 John 3:2 "Beloved, now are we the sons of God (once we receive God's Holy Spirit), and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is."

Yes WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM and we will be able to SEE HIM as He is. He IS a Spirit Being, and when WE are spirit beings, we be like Him and able to SEE Him, don't you see?

The Apostle Paul also talked about this some using some unclear metaphor.

1 Corinthians 13:12 "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

Right now we can only discern things about Him and about that spirit life as if we are looking through a dark, smoky piece of plexiglass, but at Christ's return, after the resurrection we will see Him as He is because we will be LIKE Him!!

But some will still ask, "but with what body will we come?"

The Apostle Paul answers that question for some of the Corinthians and he gets a little harsh and pointed with his answer.

(Please read the following verses and the parenthetical comments slowly and deliberately to understand more perfectly about this subject.)

1 Cor. 15:35 "But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
36 Thou fool (Strong's Concordance=stupid, uncaring, without reflection or intelligence), that which thou sowest (plant, bury in the ground) is not quickened (made alive), except it die:
37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body."

For example, a grain of corn when planted in the earth comes up a beautiful corn PLANT. Looking at the grain of corn doesn't give us an inkling of what it will look like when it grows up from the ground. One is a SEED body, the other is a PLANT body and the plant is GIVEN BIRTH by planting that seed INTO THE GROUND, just as we are "planted" into the ground (buried in a grave) and then raised from the ground (resurrected and BORN AGAIN) with a NEW body!

Verse 42 "So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption (born physical, die and are buried); it is raised in incorruption (we will be BORN AGAIN as spirit to live forever):
43 It is sown in dishonour (able to sin); it is raised in glory (in power unable to sin): it is sown in weakness (physical and struggling against lawlessness); it is raised in power (spirit):
44 It is sown a natural (physical) body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural (physical) body, and there is a spiritual body.
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul (a living being); the last Adam was made a quickening spirit (able to give eternal life).
46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural (physical); and afterward that which is spiritual (spirit). (We are born physical first, and then BORN AGAIN as Spirit Beings.)
47 The first man (Adam) is of the earth (made out of earth), earthy: the second man (Jesus the Christ) is the Lord from heaven.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy (an image of God as a physical being) , we shall also bear the image of the heavenly (the likeness of God as spirit beings).
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump (just before that great and dreadful 'day of the Lord'): for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible (raised as a spirit being), and we shall be changed (those living shall be changed into a spirit beings).
53 For this corruptible (this physical) must put on incorruption (non-corruptible spirit), and this mortal must put on immortality (with eternal life and power as a child of God).
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?"

The Apostle Paul tells us we are joint-heirs with Jesus the Christ.

Rom. 8:16 "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."

What a MAGNIFICENT calling and future, to receive the same glory, honor and inheritance which Christ received! To be CHILDREN of God in His Kingdom which will be set up ON THIS EARTH.

Rev. 11:15 " And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever."

We are told in the Book of Revelation that we who are resurrected from the dead will become Kings and Priests to Almighty God.

Revelation 1:6 "And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Revelation 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth."

Have you ever heard anything so edifying and uplifting as what I have just explained to you?

I truly hope you can for I have brought to you the very foundational reason of why you were even born!

We were born physical to allow God to make us SPIRIT BORN CHILDREN in His Family (kingdom) and we shall live and reign with Him forever!

May God bless your understanding as never before so that you can draw near to Him as this evil, sinful society breaks apart during the coming Great Tribulation!!
