Understanding ... The Jewel of The Spirit!

There is so much confusion, and misunderstanding in the world, this society, about what God's Word, the Holy Bible, says and what it means. Multiple churches and denominations are the result of that confusion and misunderstanding.

Professing Christians believe they are able to understand God's Word and many, many people then argue, debate and discuss their different "religions", all supposedly in the name of the the One True God.

Why is all this extant? Why do so many disagree, when they are all "taking it out of God's Word" ...... they say.

Hopefully this article will help with OUR understanding about this tragic situation and how it will be resolved.

(All parenthetical expression and all emphasis is by the Editor.)

What IS understanding? It is a nebulous concept having to do with our minds. It is nebulous in that each individual person is DIFFERENT from anyone else! They are, of course, AN INDIVIDUAL! I guess before we talk about understanding, we need to discuss what 'individual' means.

According to Webster's Unabridged Dictionary it is:
in·di·vid·u·al adj. (n' duh' vij' oo' ul)
1.1. Of or relating to an individual, especially a single human: individual consciousness.
2. By or for one person: individual work; an individual portion.
2. Existing as a distinct entity; separate: individual drops of rain.
3.1. Marked by or expressing individuality; distinctive or individualistic: an individual way of dressing.
2. Special; particular: Each variety of melon has its individual flavor and texture.
3. Serving to identify or set apart: “There was nothing individual about him except a deep scar... across his right cheek” (Rebecca West).

Number 2 gives the correct on-the-nose definition for this article. "Existing as a distinct entity; separate; (like) individual drops of rain."

According to scripture God deals with each person on an individual basis.

He tells us:
Ps 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation (conduct) aright will I shew the salvation of God.
Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
1Pe 1:9 Receiving the end (result) of your faith, even the salvation of your souls (lives).

Please notice the singularity of focus in each of these scriptures (and there are many more), him, his, every one, ye, your own, and your.

That is what an 'individual' is, and the scriptures tell us that God deals with each one that He calls on a personal, and individual basis because we ARE different from one another!

Now, what about this 'understanding' we are talking about?

Every person on this earth has 'understanding' about many things. Each of us has been given a 'human spirit' which allows us to understand things about humanity.

1 Cor. 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Yes, there IS a spirit in mankind! However, Satan deceived Eve into believing that man can't really die, even though God told them they would if they ate of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

That deception has evolved into the belief of most people that man has an 'immortal' soul, an individual existence within himself that cannot die. And yet God, Himself, through the Apostle Timothy has declared that man CANNOT (at this time) be immortal!!

1 Tim. 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Yes, ONLY GOD HAS IMMORTALITY at this time. However, immortality IS promised to those whom God SAVES. (1 Cor. 15:53-54)

Anyone can have this SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE simply by reading God's Holy Bible, or having it read to him. And anyone can have some HUMAN understanding about what he has read or heard.

However, to truly and deeply be BOUND to God, it must be through the MIND which was in Jesus the Christ.

THAT MIND IS THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD THE FATHER!!!! The Holy Spirit IS God's Mind!! It is His Power, His Will, His Reason, His Thinking!!

That Holy Spirit, in a human being, gives a person the spiritual ability to begin to THINK LIKE GOD THINKS!! When a person can begin to think like God thinks, THAT GIVES UNDERSTANDING OF GOD'S WORD and how to see the scriptures as God wants us to see them.

After Jesus' resurrection, he appeared to two travelers on the road to Emmaus as they were discussing the things which had happened during the past three days.

Let me quote the scriptures to show some 'understanding' on all the above.

Luke 24:13 ¶ And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

Jesus ask them what they were talking about and why they were so sad. One named Cleopas (a citizen of Emmaus) explained to him about Jesus and the things that had happened to him during the past few days. Evidently during this discourse Jesus discerned some unbelief in the two disciples.

Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

Yes, Jesus OPENED to them the scriptures so they could UNDERSTAND about Moses, all the prophets, and about Jesus Himself.

The TWO are NOT mutually extant simply by a person being alive!!

Spiritual understanding can ONLY COME from God THROUGH HIS HOLY SPIRIT!! That Holy Spirit is NOT given to everyone at this time. It IS given to those whom God CALLS and CHOOSES!

He tells us to whom He gives His Spirit:
Acts 5:32 "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit), whom God hath given to them that obey him."

Thusly we can surmise that spiritual understanding is given to those whom God has called, chosen, and given His Holy Spirit because of OBEDIENCE to His Laws!

That spiritual understanding comes to those people because they have God's Mind in them, teaching them to think THE WAY God thinks and therefore they are able to put the scriptures together the way Timothy describes.

2 Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a WORKMAN that needeth not to be ashamed, RIGHTLY dividing (rightly understanding) the WORD OF TRUTH (God's Holy Scriptures).

We are told in the Book of Proverbs about understanding and what we should do about it.

Pr 4:5 "Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth."
7 "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."

If you think here that 'wisdom' and 'understanding' are tightly coupled together, YOU ARE CORRECT!!

What then IS Wisdom? What then IS Understanding, according to God's Word?

Job 28:28 "And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and TO DEPART FROM EVIL IS UNDERSTANDING."

We are told the FEAR of God (the awesome respect for God, His Word, and His Commandments) IS 'wisdom', and that wisdom leads to understanding AS WE DEPART FROM EVIL, through OBEDIENCE to God and His Laws!

Do YOU want Spiritual Understanding? Will you allow me to tell you how to receive it? Do you have (spiritual) "ears to hear?"

Quit believing the deception that God's Laws are "done away in Christ!" Begin to realize that Jesus said, "If you love me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS." (John 14:15)

Would YOU like to be A FRIEND OF CHRIST? John 15:14 gives you the answer to that question!

Would YOU like to get wisdom and understanding? If you answered yes, then begin by OBEYING God in EVERYTHING you can find in His Word where He tells you to DO something!!

Get on your KNEES and ask God through the POWER of His Holy Spirit to allow you to UNDERSTAND His Word so that you can obey Him!

When He answers that prayer, OBEY HIM!! Keep the weekly, seventh day Sabbath. KEEP His Holy Days as delineated in Lev. 23!!! They are HIS DAYS, not Jewish Days!! Eat the proper foods He has designated in Lev. 11:1- and Deut. 14 beginning in verse 3!!

And always remember.... if you need help in your spiritual journey, we here at SevenTimes are more than willing, and able, to help guide you toward that life God describes in 1 Cor. 15:

16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
20 ¶ But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

35 ¶ But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.
39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul (a living being); the last Adam (Jesus the Christ) was made a quickening spirit.
46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. (We must be changed. Physical was not made to last eternally.)
47 The first man (referring to verse 45) is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 ¶ Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

How will all this MISUNDERSTANDING and disagreeing, mentioned at the beginning of the article, be resolved? JESUS CHRIST WILL RETURN TO THIS EARTH AND CAUSE EVERYONE TO UNDERSTAND!! However, that time will NOT be pleasant for most!! (Rev. 11:1-19)

Sometimes I hesitate to include so much scripture into what I write and sometimes opt for just placing the scriptural chapter and verse in parenthesis. However, I know that some people will NEVER open their Bible to check and read the scriptures quoted, believing blindly that whatever is written is either correct (according to their understanding) or is wrong (according to their understanding). God is very emphatic about this.

Prov. 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

I beg you!! Please! Open your OWN BIBLE and read all the scriptures I have quoted! Read them in CONTEXT. Read the whole chapter!! Imbibe God's Word into your mind so that He can then give you UNDERSTANDING, according to how He is dealing with you individually!! Work out your own salvation with FEAR and TREMBLING!!!

May God truly bless your study and reading of His Word.

Your servant,

Ken Browder, Editor.
